Job Summary

Serves as a dedicated Systems Administrator for LMC’s Linux environments. Responsible for design, configuration, implementation and maintenance of LMC’s Linux environments. Supports hardware, Operating Systems, and software components. Duties include troubleshooting issues with Linux systems, Cisco UCS and other hardware platforms, and other components that make up the Electronic Health Record (EHR) applications and related systems. Coordinates with vendor support and the Information Services Team on maintenance and upgrades of OS, HW, applications, etc. Serves as backup to the Caché Systems Administrator.

Minimum Qualifications

•Minimum Education: High School Diploma or Equivalent
•Minimum Years of Experience: 6 Years of relevant experience; 3 Years of extensive experience with Linux, Windows, or other enterprise OS.
•Substitutable Education & Experience: 6 Years of relevant experience can be substituted for the one of the following: An Associate's degree and 4 years of experience OR a Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science
•Required Certifications/Licensure: Must be willing to obtain certification in Health IT Workforce Training (HIT) program within 6 months of obtaining position; Must be willing to obtain certification in EHR training specific to Lexington Medical Center.
•Required Training: Experience with mission-critical system concepts such as high availability, clustering, business continuity, and disaster recovery; Proficiency in Linux, Microsoft Windows Operating Systems, and Network Technologies (Caché experience desired at hire, but will be provided through extensive training); Ability to adapt to new and different database environments required; Sound hardware and software troubleshooting skills; Knowledge of various storage and backup strategies; Broad knowledge of overall IS infrastructure.

Essential Functions

  • Administer and manage Red Hat Linux environments.
  • Responsible for design, configuration, implementation and maintenance of LMC’s Linux/Cache environment.
  • Performs software installations, system upgrades, configuration of virtual environments, LPARs, monitoring, scripting, and uptime management.
  • This position works closely with DBAs, Application Analysts, System Administrators, and IS management to complete assigned tasks.
  • Resolves support issues with Linux and Windows, and Caché.
  • Uses environment specific utilities to monitor and manage environments, perform capacity planning, and application upgrades, and executing database recovery procedures when necessary.
  • Works with Vendor Technical Support and appropriate LMC team members on upgrades, service pack installations, etc.
  • Ensures backups are completed on a nightly basis.
  • Maintains Linux printing. Maintains printing environments required for end users.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Documents, creates processes and ensures that maintenance tasks run successfully.
  • Ensures that operating systems are performing optimally and meeting uptime goals.
  • Performs qualifications and testing of database software and maintenance releases.
  • Supports database replication requirements.
  • Develop scripts for automating repetitive tasks.
  • Communicate/document system changes using change management.
  • Serves as backup to the Caché Systems Administrator.
  • Utilizes call logging system to capture details of every support request.
  • Works with LMC IS, Application vendors, and end-users to define needs and make technology assessments.
  • Participates in routine downtime activities and other after hours and weekend work as needed.
  • Periodically attends continuing education courses keeping abreast of IT developments.
  • Maintenance of an optimistic, professional, career oriented demeanor. Exemplifies excellent customer relations toward patients, visitors, physicians, and coworkers. Accountable for conformity to Service Expectations.
  • Performs all other duties as assigned by authorized personnel or as required in an emergency, e.g., fire or disaster
