Sr. Biomed Technician

Job Summary

Installs, maintains, and repairs a variety of Biomedical and Electronic equipment such as patient monitoring systems, I.V. pumps, lab equipment, and many other pieces of equipment found within the hospital as well as Biomedical and Electronic equipment repairs. Also serves as technical advisor to other technicians.

Minimum Qualifications

Minimum Education: Associate Degree in Electronic or Biomedical Technology
Minimum Years of Experience: 5 Years of experience within a hospital environment
Substitutable Education & Experience (Optional): Education can be substituted for equivalent Military training and experience.
Required Certifications/Licensure: Association for the Advancement of Medical Instrumentation (AAMI) Credentials Institute (ACI) Certified Biomedical Equipment Technician (CBET) or Certified Radiology Equipment Specialist (CRES) 
Required Training: Have a thorough knowledge of all Biomedical equipment in the hospital.

Essential Functions

  • To perform the duties of the Manager of Biomedical Services in his absence.
  • To take the jobs assigned to him by the Manager of Biomedical Services and do whatever necessary to complete them in a professional manner and within the priority and time allotted. This includes procurement of necessary literature and parts. To complete all necessary paperwork and documentation associated with the job in a timely and neat manner. If unable to complete the job in the time allotted or if you need assistance or if any other problems arises that you need help on, notify the Manager of Biomedical Services as soon as possible to help ensure the job is completed on time.
  • To assist the Electronic Technicians with technical problems or questions whenever possible and/or refer him to the Manager of Biomedical Services when applicable.
  • All paper work and inventory questions should be brought to the Manager's attention.
  • To assist in designing, constructing, installation, and repair of special projects and equipment as assigned by the Manager of Biomedical Services.
  • To keep your work station in an orderly manner replacing all manuals and tools to their proper place when not in use.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Clears any new procedures or applications of Biomedical equipment with the Manager, Biomedical Services.
  • Reports any personal problems within the department or with other departments or with patients or visitors to the Manager, Biomedical Services.
  • Duties will require some traveling.
  • Assist in preparation of policy and procedures manual for Biomedical.
  • Keep shop manager informed of all Governmental and JCAHO Codes and Regulations and assure that the Biomedical Shop is in total compliance.
  • Maintains an optimistic and professional image and exhibits excellent customer relations to patients, visitors, physicians, and co-workers. Shows courtesy, compassion and respect. Conforms to Service Excellence Policy and "House Rules".
  • Performs all other duties as assigned by authorized personnel or as required in an emergency, e.g., fire or disaster.
