Job Summary
Performs various clinical/technical duties related to performing EKGs, the application of holter monitor and scanning, event monitor hookup, device interrogation and performing stress testing. Reports results of each procedure to appropriate staff. Provides leadership for EKG staff in absence of Supervisor.
Minimum Qualifications
Minimum Education: High School Degree or Equivalent
Minimum Years of Experience: 10 Years of experience performing EKG department procedures.
Substitutable Education & Experience: None.
Required Certifications/Licensure: CPR certified or certified within 3 months of employment.
Required Training: Completion of recognized EKG training program;
Familiar with medical terminology.
Essential Functions
- Demonstrates competence to provide developmentally appropriate care/treatment for the following patient populations: infant (birth to 1 year) children (1 year to 12 years) adolescent (13 years to 17 years) adult (18 years to 65 years) and geriatric (over 65 years) patients.
- Performs and provides appropriate follow-up for Adult and Pediatric EKGs. (50%)
- Performs Treadmill Stress Testing, Holter Monitor hook up, removal and scanning, Device Interrogation,and Event Monitor hook up with appropriate follow up (25%)
- Processes and ensures that all EKGs are completed and appropriately transmitted to medical record for both inpatients and outpatients. (25%)
- Recognizes and reports changes from previous EKG tracings as well as any life threatening arrhythmias.
- Responds to all Maydays and Rapid Responses to perform 12 lead EKG tracing and/or rhythm strips and report any changes to physician.
- Available for call service.
- Carries a beeper/ cell phone and responds promptly to all calls.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Utilizes, maintains and troubleshoots equipment to ensure proper function.
- Assists with orientation of new personnel as directed in areas of EKG, stress testing and Holter monitoring/scanning and serves as clinical mentors to EKG students.
- Identifies opportunities for improvement of services and collects data for quality assurance.
- Serves as charge technician in absence of supervisor.
- Performs such other duties as assigned by authorized personnel or as required in an emergency, i.e. fire or disaster.
