Job Summary

Responsible for the preparation, analysis, and maintenance of financial reporting and records for Lexington Health Service District, Inc.. Must be able to skillfully analyze, understand, explain, and apply accounting principles, techniques, and procedures in the work performed. Must be able to independently analyze functions within the organization to determine financial impact.

Minimum Qualifications

Minimum Education: Master’s Degree in Business or Accounting
Minimum Years of Experience: 4 Years of experience as a staff accountant
Substitutable Education & Experience: Master's Degree in Business or Accounting can be substituted for a CPA
Required Certifications/Licensure: None
Required Training: Experience and knowledge of computerized accounting systems.

Essential Functions

  • Coordinate with Physician offices, Lexmed Inc., LMC Foundation and Community Medical Centers regarding Accounting issues.
  • Prepare and process journal entries necessary to record financial and statistical transactions prior to month end deadlines.
  • Analyzes and reconciles assigned general ledger accounts on a monthly basis.
  • Perform detailed analysis of revenue and report on trends.
  • Review allowance calculations to ensure reserves are accurate and appropriate.
  • Prepare quarterly bond reports.
  • Prepare consolidated financial statements.
  • Assist with compilation/preparation of hospital’s annual operating budget.
  • Complete special projects or research various issues to assist management to determine the financial impact.  Complete surveys from inside and outside sources
  • Maintain current summary of investments and related transactions. Alert VP Finance and Director when investments are due to mature.  Update trend analysis for current rates quoted.  Provide appropriate data on investment transactions for cash flow statements.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Assist with designing and preparing ad hoc general ledger reports and statements. 
  • Perform a variety of duties related to PHS, LMC Foundation & Lexmed.
  • Assist in closing and prepare reports and financial statements monthly and annually.
  • Work closely with external auditors in appropriate area of their work.
  • Enhance professional growth and development through participation in educational programs, current literature, in service meetings and workshops.
  • As developments occur or significant concerns arise, advise and update the Accounting Manager, Director and other appropriate personnel. Responsible for recommending improvements, adaptations or revisions in the accounting system or procedures. 
  • Maintain an optimistic and professional image and exhibit excellent customer relations to patients, visitors, physicians, and co-workers. Show courtesy, compassion, and respect. Conform to service excellence policy and "House Rules."
  • Performs all other duties as  assigned by authorized personnel, or as required in an emergency (i.e., fire or disaster).
  • Research emerging FASB, GASB and tax issues.
  • Prepare or review tax returns.
  • Performs all other duties as assigned.
