Job Summary

The Clinical Psychologist serves as the Graduate Medical Education (GME) Behavioral Health Specialist. Participates with residents and other faculty members as part of an inter-professional education and collaborative practice within the family medicine residency program. Will be responsible to diagnose, provide consultation and treatment  to patients who suffer from mental, behavioral or emotional disorders. Responsible for developing a behavioral health curriculum and ensure didactic and experiential educational venues to improve clinical acumen of residents and quality of care for patients. Serves a faculty member of the family medicine residency program, and will participate in GME activities including providing feedback on or to residents, co-precepting, providing direct patient care, and directly observing residents. These educational and clinical activities will occur in the ambulatory setting of Lexington Family Medicine.

Minimum Qualifications

Minimum Education: Graduate of an accredited doctoral program in psychology and completion of an APA or APPIC-approved internship in clinical psychology.
Minimum Years of Experience: The successful applicant must be able to demonstrate provision of outpatient services to an acceptable number of patients during the past twelve (12) months.

Required Certifications/Licensure: Current active State license to practice as a clinical psychologist in the State of South Carolina is required. Meets criteria for maintenance of licensure as specified by the SC Board of Examiners in Psychology.   Demonstrated current competence and provision of care, treatment, or services.
Required Training: Demonstrated competence to provide developmentally appropriate care / treatment for all patient populations (infant through geriatric).

Essential Functions

  • This position is committed to assisting residents in the delivery of safe, quality, cost-effective, evidence-based patient-centered care in the outpatient and inpatient settings.  
  • Administrative duties related to residency evaluation and didactic training including but not limited to:  serves on the Program Evaluation Committee; Assists the PD in the annual orientation of residents; participates in the evaluation of all learners; and assists the PD and faculty in oversight of behavioral health education and behavioral health based didactic lectures.
  • Professional development duties related to residency training including but not limited to:  completes annual professional and faculty development; participates in scholarly activity projects annually with residents; completes quality/practice improvement projects annually with residents. Professional development will also entail institutional participation, in activities such as Grand Rounds, IRB, and FM and other GME program orientations.
  • Family medicine administrative duties related to the efficient and safe conduct in clinical settings including but not limited to: appropriate and timely documentation in the electronic health record, providing ambulatory expertise as part of an inter-professional collaborative patient care team in the outpatient setting (such as family therapy, individual psychotherapy/therapy/counseling, group therapy, psychological and cognitive assessment, psychosocial and psychoeducational consultation with other health care providers).  

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Assists in Quality Assurance /Improvement in the outpatient office.
  • Assists in keeping the outpatient office in a continuous readiness status for all regulatory agencies.
  • Precept and mentor medical students and residents.
  • Other duties as necessary to meet ACGME requirements, as directed by the Program Director.
