Job Summary
The Console Operator utilizes a multiple-position computerized switchboard to process incoming calls and requests for information.
Minimum Qualifications
Minimum Education: High School Diploma or Equivalent
Minimum Years of Experience: None.
Substitutable Education & Experience (Optional): None.
Required Certifications/Licensure: None.
Required Training: Ability to maintain professionalism while working under stress during extremely busy times;
Ability to multi-task between different systems, i.e. phone/paging system, computer system, etc.
Essential Functions
- Operates voice over internet protocol (VoIP) phones and hospital paging systems.
- Operates patient information systems.
- Properly handles all incoming calls for the hospital’s main line.
- Provides information to callers while maintaining compliance with HIPPA and hospital policy.
- Acts as an in-house directory.
- Has a complete knowledge of the switchboard, to include, utilization of equipment and adherence to hospital policies.
- Properly notifies on call personnel for different hospital departments.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Reports issues to the proper personnel.
- Provides assistance in training new employees.
- Perform other duties assigned by authorized personnel or as required in an emergency, e.g., fire or disaster.
- Ensures operation compliance with Federal, State, County, Organization, and Department standards.
- Ensures accurate and timely dissemination of information to supervision.
- Ensures timely resolution to requests.
- Any other request assigned by management.
