Job Summary

The Communications Officer receives and documents calls for service throughout the organization and dispatches the appropriate officers, as well as monitors alarms, cameras and access doors.

Minimum Qualifications

Minimum Education: High School Diploma or Equivalent 
Minimum Years of Experience: 1 Year of communication, law enforcement/public safety or related experience such as military service
Substitutable Education & Experience (Optional): None.
Required Certifications/Licensure: National Crime Information Center (NCIC) certified or has the ability to become NCIC certified;

Must have and maintain a valid South Carolina’s driver’s license and acceptable Motor Vehicle record and background screening as outlined in the Vehicle Safety policy (Subject to annual Motor Vehicle Record review and satisfactory results).
Required Training: Experience with Windows Operating System (MS Word, MS Excel, MS PowerPoint)

Essential Functions

  • Dispatches appropriate personnel to organization calls for service.
  • Monitors all organizational cameras, access control doors and alarms (infant abduction, fire, burglar, Lab, Engineering, etc).
  • Documents all calls for service completely and accurately.
  • Maintains accurate tracking information (patient assist, vehicle service, response time, etc).
  • Handles requests for video review.
  • Reports equipment malfunctions to the appropriate personnel/vendor.
  • Assumes select access control duties after hours such as basic troubleshooting and printing badges.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Prepares written reports of investigation based on his or her actions.
  • Accesses the NCIC and South Carolina Department of Motor Vehicles (SCDMV) database for investigative purposes.
  • Ensures operation compliance with Federal, State, County, Organization, and Department standards.
  • Ensures accurate and timely dissemination of information to supervision.
  • Ensures timely resolution to requests. 
  • Any other request assigned by management.
