Job Summary

The Clinical Coordinator serves as an administrative liaison and resource person throughout Lexington Oncology Associates facilitating, coordinating, and overseeing the process of patient care. Responsible for clinical staff, staff assignments, vacation calendar, department orientation of new staff, and patient education. Provides support and guidance for clinical policies and procedures. Schedules appointments, referrals, ancillary testing, and hospital admissions. Responsible for medication management duties as directed by physician including but not limited to injections, administration of sample medications, and patient medication education. Prepare and maintain exam rooms, removing outdated medications/supplies, and ensuring stock is at par levels. Follows all equipment cleaning and sterilization procedures and ensures clinical staff compliance. Rooms patients, conducts patient assessments, assists with procedures, implements physician orders, provides patient education, and documents clinical information appropriately. Operation of and responsibility for equipment (including, but not limited to, routine maintenance, ordering of supplies, log sheets and cleaning). Provides input into the selection of equipment. Follows all department policies and procedures and ensures staff compliance. Obtains precertification/authorizations as needed. Complies with all coding documentation requirements to ensure proper billing. Provides Manager with statistical reports as needed. 

Minimum Qualifications

  • Minimum Education: Associate of Science Degree in Nursing or Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing
  • Minimum Years of Experience: None
  • Substitutable Education & Experience: None
  • Required Certifications/Licensure: Currently licensed as a Registered Nurse by the State Board of Nursing for South Carolina; Certified Oncology Nurse through Oncology Nursing Certification Corporation (ONCC).
  • Required Training: None

Essential Functions

  • Facilitates, coordinates, and oversees the process of patient care at Lexington Oncology Associates.
  • Maintains a positive attitude. Has contact by phone, correspondence, or personal meetings with persons in other departments or outside the practice; tact is required in these contacts and the employee assumes the responsibility for harmonious relationships.
  • Demonstrates the appropriate communication of information to patients served by LOA.   
    • Adult – 18 years through 65 years         
    • Geriatric – Over 65 years
  • Responsiveness to all patients and office staff requests and needs.
  • Performance of duties assigned by authorized personnel or as required in an  emergency, i.e., fire or disaster
  • Schedules appointments, referrals, ancillary testing, and hospital admissions.

  • Will assess human resource needs and plan and evaluate employee activities to ensure safe, effective and fiscally sound operations. 
  • Manages human resources to assure safe and effective operations.
  • Reallocates nursing staff to meet patient care needs.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Demonstrates ability to work with personnel in a manner which fosters positive employee development and performance.
  • Provides input for evaluation of nursing staff performance for probationary period and annual performance appraisals.
  • Recommends and initiates personnel action for performance issues utilizing appropriate channels and procedures.
  • Follows up on performance issues within assigned area of responsibility.
  • Identifies educational needs of nursing staff and provides input into educational programs.  Sets example for clinical staff by ensuring all personal certification and mandatory education requirements are met.
  • Will communicate effectively throughout Lexington Oncology Associates and with other departments.
  • Keeps Manager informed of activities through oral and written communications.
  • Collaborates with staff, physicians, midlevel providers, and others to enhance effective problem solving.
  • Clarifies and interprets administrative, personnel and nursing services policies and procedures.
  • Represents the nursing staff at various meetings and serves on committees as assigned.
  • Sets an example for clinical staff by fully utilizing the electronic health record and other electronic communication and systems for conveying information.
  • Answers Telephones (Answer, Transfer), takes messages, performs phone triage, and updates providers appropriately.
  • Identifies opportunities to improve patient care, health care practice and interaction with healthcare partners, and initiates and/or participates in the development of action plans to achieve desired outcomes.
  • Identifies ineffective routines, interventions, and systems, which do not contribute to desired or identifiable outcomes and takes action to change these practices.
  • Facilitates change in a positive manner.
  • Contributes and participates in the evaluation and improvement of processes.
  • Contributes to department quality initiatives.
  • Understands and agrees to seek compliance with appropriate health and safety regulatory agencies
  • Performs all other duties as assigned.
