Job Summary
Responsible and accountable for the delivery of safe, effective, and efficient patient centered care through the continuum of the perioperative services division. Works collaboratively with other perioperative services leadership, support services and surgical practices to deliver a first class surgical/procedural experience to our patients and our surgeons.
Minimum Qualifications
Minimum Education: Bachelors of Science in Nursing with a Master’s Degree in Nursing or other Healthcare Related Field
Minimum Years of Experience: 5 Years of management experience with increasing level of administrative responsibility and authority
Substitutable Education & Experience (Optional): None.
Required Certifications/Licensure: Registered Nurse in South Carolina;
Basic Life Support (BLS) certification, Advanced Life Support (ALS) certification, or Certified Nurse- Operating Room (CNOR) certification preferred at hire, but may be obtained within 6 months of hire date.
Required Training: None.
Essential Functions
- Oversees management of clinical operations of perioperative services division to include the following departments: Interview & Assessment, pre-operative department, Operating Rooms, and post acute care unit.
- Works in conjunction with the Director of Perioperative Administration to provide overall safe, efficient and high quality care thru the perioperative division of Lexington Medical Center.
- Works successfully in a highly complex and stressful environment.
- Communicates in a highly effective manner. Maintains an awareness of audience and ability to customize delivery of communication.
- Demonstrated ability to make good decisions and highly cognizant when decision making requires other party input.
- Provides leadership to clinical perioperative personnel in evaluating practice and creating strategies for further improvement.
- Verifies that educational resources are available for clinical perioperative services personnel and holds personnel accountable for compliance with established standards.
- Coordinates, facilitates, and manages change within perioperative services and the health care institution.
- Works collaboratively with the surgeons/physicians working in the perioperative division in order to partner with stakeholders to deliver high quality care to our patients.
- Collects and analyzes data related to quality or performance improvement projects that apply to perioperative services.
- Highly effective in conflict resolution techniques.
- Facilitates or serves as a member of a multidisciplinary team in planning perioperative patient care.
- Oversees evaluation process for clinical perioperative personnel performance.
- Ensures the quality of the interviewing and selection process for clinical perioperative personnel.
- Assists departmental leadership of perioperative division in verifying that appropriate personnel, equipment, and supplies meet or exceed the volume of expected daily cases.
- Ensures the Department’s regulatory compliance with all DHEC, DNV, AORN and CMS standards.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Provides guidance, support, and constructive feedback to clinical perioperative personnel team members and other team members as appropriate.
- Pursues professional growth and participates in a professional organization.
- Assesses the progress on the goals of the Department periodically and adjusts operations to ensure the Department’s success in meeting or exceeding the goals for the year.
- Reviews and revises Departmental policies and procedures as needed.
- Responsible for the overal development of an annual Performance Improvement Plan for each Department of responsibility.
- Works with the Director Perioperative Administration to prepare and make recommendations for Operating Budget and Capital Budget for all responsible Departments.
- Works closely with Human Resources as necessary related to personnel.
- Manages the employees of the Department establishing staff performance goals, assessing competencies of the staff and allocating staff resources.
- Encourages and gives recognition to staff for performance above and beyond performance expectations.
- Responsible for strategic staff resource planning.
- Ensures departmental management and maintenance of staff records to include annual competency verification, annual performance review, and a copy of current license and certification.
- Promotes professional growth and development for the staff.
- Exemplifies and follows the standards set forth in Service Expectations policy.
- Leads and champions overall strategy to promote patient satisfaction and engagement.
- Enthusiastically leads team and embodies the culture of the organization.
- Supports strategic initiatives of the organization and implements as necessary.
- Performs all other duties as assigned.
