Job Summary

The primary purpose is to assist the Occupational Therapist in carrying out the programs of treatment to residents referred to Rehab Services for Occupational Therapy.  This position reports directly to the Occupational Therapist on duty as well as the Director of Rehabilitation Services.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Graduate of an AOTA approved school of Occupational Therapy Assistant with an Associate of Science degree as an Occupational Therapist Assistant.      
  • Certification by the American Occupational Therapy Association.
  • Licensed in the State of South Carolina by the South Carolina Board of Occupational Therapy.
     

Essential Functions

  • Administers Occupational Therapy treatments, such as upper extremity strengthening and coordination exercises, sensory integration, and activities of daily living, as prescribed by a physician and outlined in the resident’s plan of care as established by the Occupational Therapist.  These services are provided to adult and geriatric residents.  Requires Occupational Therapist to perform supervisory treatments every seventh treatment throughout their program.
  • Measures range of motion, strength, coordination and functional status to assist the Occupational Therapist in compiling data for resident’s functional outcomes.
  • Administers Occupational Therapy treatments such as exercise and ADL training with a goal of achieving greater than 85% of billable therapy minutes per total work hours per day.
  • Records appropriate and accurate treatment data and resident progress notes for Occupational Therapy residents in the electronic health record.
  • Consults with other professionals regarding resident Occupational Therapy program to help coordinate and plan medical services.  
  • Instructs residents and their families in resident Occupational Therapy home programs.
  • Communicates with the scheduler regarding scheduling of residents on caseload.
     

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Maintains an optimistic and professional image and exhibits excellent customer relations to residents, visitors, physicians and co-workers.  Shows courtesy, compassion and respect.  Conforms to facility Code of Ethics.  
  • Mandatory participation in the facility’s inservice education program (Relias) and provides inservice classes for other Lexington Medical Center Extended Care departments such as nursing, housekeeping, etc.
  • Attends professional conferences and meetings.
  • Assists with the transportation of residents as needed.
  • Uses safe techniques for protection of residents and self in performing duties. 
  • Instructs and directs Rehab Techs while tech is assisting Occupational Therapist Assistant.
  • Performs related and such other duties as may be assigned by authorized personnel or as required in an emergency, e.g. fire or disaster.
  • Assists in maintaining a neat and safe department by straightening equipment, putting away supplies, calling housekeeping when necessary and making suggestions to better the appearance of the department.
  • Performs all other duties as assigned.
